R.K. Narayan’s ‘My Days’ is a delightful memoir that takes readers on a nostalgic journey through the author’s childhood and early career. As a lifelong admirer of R K Narayan (my guru), I was thrilled to delve into his personal life and gain insights into the inspiration behind his iconic creations.

Narayan’s vivid descriptions of his childhood in Mysore, his struggles as a budding writer, and his eventual rise to literary fame captivated me from the very beginning. He shares anecdotes about his family, friends, and teachers, painting a heartwarming picture of his life.

One of the highlights of the book is Narayan’s exploration of the inspiration behind Malgudi, the fictional town that serves as the backdrop for many of his novels. I have always been fascinated by Malgudi and its characters, and reading about how Narayan conceived and developed this world was truly enlightening.

I had the privilege of visiting Narayan’s houses in both Mysore and Chennai after reading ‘My Days’. These visits brought his stories to life and allowed me to connect with the author on a deeper level. I can still picture myself walking through the streets of Malgudi, imagining the characters from his novels going about their daily lives.

If you are a fan of R.K. Narayan or simply enjoy a well-written memoir, I highly recommend My Days. It is a must-read for anyone interested in Indian literature and the life of a literary giant.
