Sri Visnu Sahasranama

495.00

The Vishnu Sahasranama is a famous chant praising a specific god with a thousand names. Unlike other Sahasranamas, it focuses solely on Vishnu and is considered especially powerful. Found in the Mahabharata, it’s the go-to chant when someone mentions “Sahasranama.”

Description

The Sri Vishnu Saharasranama stotras address some particular deity and invoke him with a thousand names or less which are found scattered in the Epics and Puranas. Several of them are about Ganesa, Subramanya, Siva, and Devis, but there is only one Sahasranama Stotra in praise of Vishnu. It is found in Chapter 149 of the Anusasanika Parva of the Mahabharata in the dialogue between Bhisma and Yudhisthira. It consists of 142 slokas. Any mention of Sahasranama generally pertains to Vishnu Sahasranam on account of his popularity and perspicuity of expression.
